17th August 2010

Monday 17th August 2010.

Woke up feeling the need to do something. So me and a friend headed to Steve McCurry - Retrospective exhibition.

An American photo-journalist who displays snapshots of people who had suffered from the Russian invasion on Afghanistan in the 1980's.

My pictures aren't amazing as I had to sneak them on my iphone:

I had the lump in my throat the size of an apple. Possibly one of the most disturbing images I've ever seen.

'What is important to my work is the individual picture. I photograph stories on assignment, and of course they have to be put together coherently. But what matters most is each picture stands on its own, with it'sown place and feeling.'

- Steve McCurry

A few more images from the day:

Unlike the writer, once I pack my bags there is no chance for another draft, either I have the shot or I don't. This is what drives and haunts the professional photographer, the gnawing sense that 'this is it'.
